Our Teachers
Jen Whinnen – Director
Jen is a Yoga Alliance E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) vinyasa teacher with over 13 years of experience. For seven years she was the Senior Instructor of Sonic Yoga’s teacher training program where she trained hundreds of teachers. Teachers that have trained under Jen have gone on to open their own businesses, teach all over the world and share their love of yoga wherever they can. Three Sisters Yoga’s krama (stages) vinyasa approach to teaching is rooted in Jen's Iyengar and Ashtanga/Vinyasa training. Jen weaves together classes that are anatomically concise and safe while still being challenging, liberating and fun. Read Jen’s blog at: yogajen.blogspot.com

Erin Moon
Erin Moon grew up in Calgary, Alberta Canada (T2A 4R3) then met a boy, got hitched and moved to NYC in 2002. Shortly thereafter, she found Sonic Yoga who kindly sponsored her to received her RYT Yoga Alliance certification in early 2005. Since then she has taught at studios, privately (from human rights activists to new Mom's and Wall Street executives) and at gyms. From the very first class at Three Sisters Yoga, her greatest yoga joy has been teaching future yoga instructors. Always being a physical girl, yoga, dance, riding horses, playing sports, gymnastics (certified coach) and lots of fun things done in the snow, Erin believes that the physical state can often have as much of an effect on the mind as the opposite way round. Yoga has opened the door for a greater understanding of, and enlightening philosophical approach to, existence. Movement can enliven the soul, free the imagination and be a form of meditation, so she enjoys putting together sequences that are challenging and new for everyone including herself! Krissy Shields
Growing up a dancer and gymnast, Krissy has always been connected to her body. She first learned a sun salutation in a movement class during acting school. Out of pure necessity of a rapid moving mind she was introduced to Kundalini from a friend, which led her to various styles of yoga in Chicago. She received her 200-hour teaching certification from Sonic in 2005, completed her 500 hr with Dharma Mittra in 2010 and is studying with Gurmukh's kundalini training Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training program this spring. Teaching is a pure gift and Krissy has given it right back to teaching children in the homeless shelter Women in Need in Brooklyn, as well as Rikers Prison. Besides teaching with Three Sisters she teaches at Sonic Yoga, Namaste New York and Om Factory, as well as the organization Creative Seeds which brings yoga, art and theatre to distressed places all over the world. Krissy is thrilled to teach future teachers on their journeys toward self realization. Find out more about Krissy at krissyshields.com.

Kyle Shepard
Kyle Shepard has been practicing yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2007. Among the numerous workshops and courses he has completed the most influential include the teacher training at OM yoga Center (where he taught for two years), Leslie Kaminoff's Yoga Anatomy and Applications of Breath-Centered Yoga Therapy, Judith Lasater's restorative yoga teacher training, and Amy Matthew's ongoing Embodied Anatomy and Kinesiology courses. His classes draw on a variety of yoga traditions as well as various body awareness and therapeutic practices to find an approach suitable for each individual student. Kyle's class cultivates a nonjudgmental atmosphere that encourages the student to tune in to the wonder of each individual moment. Alignment, initiation, and intention are emphasized not only for safety and to optimize the benefits of the practice but also as an exercise in mindfulness and a way to explore yogic philosophy in action. A main goal of Kyle's teaching is to have his students leave class with a greater connection to their bodies, opened in a way that facilitates deeper and more meaningful connections with those around them.
